Together, we can help dog owners when it matters most
Our Freedom service has a network of dedicated foster carers, this means owners have somewhere safe and confidential for their dog to stay temporarily while they take the next step on their journey to freedom from domestic abuse.
We are seeing a rise in the demand for our services, so it’s vital that we’re ready to support owners and their beloved companions when they need us most.
We provide toys, food, bedding and treats, as well as access to vital veterinary treatment and behavioural training. All this, and our network of foster carers, simply wouldn’t be possible without your kind donations.
Since we launched in 2004, we have fostered almost 3000 dogs.

Hannah’s story
For Hannah* and her dog Saffron, the abuse was heart-breaking.
“He’d handle Saffron roughly, kick her and shout at her,” says Hannah. “And he refused to let me take her to the vets.”
Because of the Freedom service and its dedicated foster carers, Hannah had somewhere safe and confidential for Saffron to stay temporarily.
“I was so upset that I cried for days, but I knew she’d be cared for.” That’s because Saffron’s foster carer had everything they needed to look after her and keep her safe.
We also made sure Hannah received photos and updates so she knew Saffron was getting plenty of love and care. “I felt anxious about where she was but getting the photos and monthly updates from the team really helped. It meant I could focus on my healing, knowing she was safe.”
After several months, Hannah was safe and settled in a new home. That meant one thing was left – an emotional and long-awaited reunion…
*Models have been used and all names have been changed to protect the family’s identity.
As you can imagine, it was a hugely emotional moment. “I was really nervous that she wouldn’t remember me,” says Hannah. “As soon as she saw me through the van door, she was wagging her tail. She gave me lots of licks and then ran into the new house – she was so excited.” Finally, they were both safe.
Often, owners like Hannah have lost everything. So we make sure they have the essentials to help their dog settle again and start their new life together. “ My new flat only became a home when Saffron was back with me.” Now, life is completely different for Hannah and Saffron.
They're happy. They’re free. They’re safe. All thanks to supporters like you.
“I just think it’s amazing that someone can do this for someone else.”
